Man Can't Sue Applebee's Over Burns He Got Praying Over Fajitas

A New Jersey appellate court says a man cannot seek damages for burns he suffered while bowing his head in prayer over a sizzling steak fajita skillet at a Burlington County Applebee's.
The ruling made public Wednesday upheld a lower-court ruling that dismissed the suit.
The man, Hiram Jimenez, claimed a waitress didn't warn him the dish was hot, but the lower court found the hot food posed an "open and obvious" danger.
The incident occurred in March 2010 at the Applebee's restaurant in Westampton.
Jimenez said he bowed his head close to the table, then heard a loud sizzling noise followed by a grease pop. He then felt a burning sensation in his left eye and on his face.
The man said he then panicked and knocked the food on his lap, causing more burns. But none of the burns left any scarring.

J. K. Rowling releases 2nd of 12 daily Harry Potter stories

J.K. Rowling's New Harry Potter Material Adds to the Tale of Severus Snape
J.K. Rowling

For the first day of Pottermas, J.K. Rowling has published a new passage about some of the most crucial characters in the Harry Potter wizarding world.
The Harry Potter author released the first of 12 new nuggets on the Pottermore website on Friday, with this one focused on Cokeworth, the industrial town where Harry once spent a night with his Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia, and cousin Dudley.
As it turns out, it was also the town where Petunia grew up, alongside her sister Lily — aka Harry Potter’s mom — and Severus Snape. Despite Vernon’s perception of the town as a grimy, rundown borough, it was where Lily first learned of her fantastic magical powers.

For dedicated Potter fans, the short bit of writing might not be quite enough. But then, there’s more where that came from, with 11 more passages to come.

Postgame Numbers: Lakers at Spurs (12/12/14)

Here is a by-the-numbers look at the Lakers’ 112-110 overtime win over the San Antonio Spurs.

0
Points for Kobe Bryant in overtime. The NBA’s second-highest scorer missed all five of his shots in the extra period, but his teammates picked him up. Nick Young and Jordan Hill both went 2-for-3 for nine combined points, while Young nailed the biggest shot of the night. With seven seconds left in overtime and only one on the shot clock, Young splashed a 30-foot, game-winning 3-pointer to steal the 112-110 victory.

“I hope this is one of those types of wins that gives us the type of confidence to win games like this against teams like that,” head coach Byron Scott said. “I think this is definitely the best game we’ve played this season — to beat the defending champions on their court.”

2
Lakers with double-doubles. Jordan Hill and Carlos Boozer each had 14 points on a 14-for-28 combined clip. Hill grabbed 10 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the year. Boozer, meanwhile, snagged 13 rebounds to push his averages up to 13.7 points and 9.3 rebounds in three games off the bench.

5
Turnovers for the Lakers in the final two minutes of regulation. L.A. could not manage a single point during that stretch, while the Spurs scored nine unanswered to force overtime. The Lakers managed only two shot attempts during this sequence, while San Antonio hit two 3-pointers and three free throws.

“We made some mistakes and they picked up the pressure,” Bryant said. “They made some big shots, and that’s why they’re the defending champs.”

9
Assists for Bryant. Despite shooting just 7-for-22 on a night when the biggest storyline was whether he would pass Michael Jordan on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, Bryant still had a huge impact on his team’s win. The captain dropped 22 points, nine assists and five steals. His passing was a huge part of getting his teammates open looks, as he also had three secondary assists.

29
Points scored by Young, which were a season-high. “Swaggy P” shot 9-for-14 from the field, 6-for-9 from 3-point range and 5-for-5 on free throws. He also drained all of his first five 3-point attempts and went 7-for-10 on contested shots, including the game-winner with Manu Ginobili draped all over him.

“Once it left my hands, I kind of knew it was cash,” Young said. “I’m like, ‘I don’t miss.’ That’s my new name: IDM. Call me IDM. I don’t miss.”

Christian Bale Explains The Ending Of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

dkr-endingWARNER

We didn’t think the ending of The Dark Knight Rises was ambiguous, but since it’s a Christopher Nolan movie, some people interpret it as only Alfred’s dream *Inception BWOM*. The script made a big to-do about Lucius Fox saying the Batwing’s autopilot was broken, leaving us to momentarily believe Bruce Wayne was in the Batwing when it exploded. (Some days, you just can’t get rid of Bane’s bomb.) So when Alfred sees Bruce and Selina Kyle at a cafe in Italy, similar to the dream he described earlier in the movie, some people interpreted that as something Alfred only imagined. Now Christian Bale has cleared things up.

Entertainment Weekly asked Bale about this scene, and he didn’t hesitate to help out those confused by what was probably the least confusing thing about The Dark Knight Rises.

“[Alfred] was content with me being alive and left because that was the life he always wanted for him. I find it very interesting and with most films, I tend to say ‘It’s what the audience thinks it is.’ My personal opinion? No, it was not a dream. That was for real and he was just delighted that finally he had freed himself from the privilege, but ultimately the burden, of being Bruce Wayne.” [transcribed by /film]

We’re inclined to agree. Why would there be a trilogy with one of the most realistic mainstream depictions of a superhero, only to cap off the whole thing with a dream sequence presented as reality? Unless… oh my God. What if Bruce Wayne never became Batman and it was a dream he was having during a meeting the whole time? *BWOM*
